At the design bore the 26.49 T plug coil is overstressed by roughly 3 to 3.9 times — infeasible as specified. This is a physics fact, stated plainly.
The gate, stated at full strength
The burner's end plugs require a 26.49 T field. At the design bore, the plug coil is overstressed by roughly 3 to 3.9 times what the conductor and its structure can bear as specified. In its current form the plug magnet is infeasible. We state this plainly because it is a physics-and-engineering fact, not a matter of optimism.
The cause is fundamental: magnetic pressure scales as B2, so a 26.49 T coil carries an enormous outward force that its winding and support structure must react. At the specified bore, no available conductor-and-structure combination keeps the stress within allowables by a factor of three to nearly four.
Why we do not soften it
The confining potential the burner needs requires this field; the field at this bore breaks the coil. Resolving the gap — through geometry, materials, or field-shaping — is open work, and until it closes the burner remains a design-and-simulation study. Stating the 3–3.9× overstress honestly is what makes the rest of the design trustworthy.
Nothing about the gate is hidden in an assumption: it follows directly from the specified field and bore and the strength of real conductor and structure. Closing it is legitimate future work — through field-shaping, graded coils, advanced conductors, or a revised geometry — but until a concrete design holds the stress within allowables, the honest statement is that the plug magnet, as specified, does not close.
