How it works.
Two machines, one loop. Here is the whole Kronos architecture in plain terms — what each machine is, what it makes, and how they connect.
Breeder and burner.
HYPERION — the breeder
A compact D–T spherical tokamak. Fusion gain Q 3.424, 88.7 MW, 9.86 MA. It makes tritium, helium-3, and a 14 MeV neutron flux.
The generator — the burner
A low-neutron D–³He tandem mirror (Aegis, MetroVolt). Engineering gain Q_E 1.31, fₙ 5.44%, net +104 / +850 / +2,832 MW_e at three lengths.
The connection
Helium-3 from the breeder fuels the burner. Charged products convert straight to electricity — no steam. Breed the fuel first, then burn it.
The hard, novel part — closing the physics at demonstrated confinement — is done. The rest is standard engineering, with the open gates named.
