He-3 Demand Gate

A commercial burner unit demands roughly 400x the domestic helium-3 supply, so it is gated on a fuel that does not exist at terrestrial scale.

This is the third honest gate, and it is about fuel, not the machine's internals. The burner burns helium-3, which is extraordinarily scarce on Earth. A single commercial-class unit would demand on the order of 400 times the domestic helium-3 supply. There is no terrestrial helium-3 source that can feed even one commercial burner, let alone a fleet.

This is why the burner cannot be read in isolation from the rest of Kronos. It is the reason the breeder (Hyperion) matters — it produces helium-3 as a product — and the reason lunar helium-3 is part of the long-term story. The burner is gated on a fuel supply that must be created, either bred or mined, before commercial operation is possible.

How the gate could close

Two paths, both external to the machine. The breeder (Hyperion) produces helium-3 as part of its product stream, so a breeder fleet could feed a burner fleet over time. And lunar regolith holds helium-3 that could, in principle, be mined and returned. Both are long-horizon programs. Until one delivers at scale, the burner remains fuel-gated — a fully honest statement made with no economic figures attached.
