The sequence

MetroVolt sits inside a two-machine program. The breeder is built first because it delivers value on fusion gain alone; the burner follows once the breeder has retired first construction and operations risk. The dates below are targets from the current plan.

Why these gaps

The years between milestones are not idle. Breeder construction and early operation feed magnet, cryogenics, tritium-handling, and controls experience directly into the burner. The burner test unit is designed and long-lead hardware ordered while the breeder runs, so 2032 is a build-and-test date, not a start-from-scratch date.

No MetroVolt performance claim precedes its test unit. There is no hardware net-gain claim before the breeder’s first-of-a-kind milestone, and no commercial burner claim before the 2032 test unit reports.
