Developing Aegis and MetroVolt Together
Aegis and MetroVolt are one burner core in two housings; developing them together means the ~2032 test unit advances both products at once.
One core, two housings
Kronos’s burner is a single machine — a D-³He tandem-mirror generator with a 26.49 T plug, 17 T throat, neutron fraction near 5.44%, and direct energy conversion — offered in two housings. Aegis serves fixed defense installations; MetroVolt serves data centers and cities. The physics under development is identical.
This is efficient for readiness. Every gate the burner core must clear — confinement, high field, DEC, materials — is shared. The ~2032 test unit proves the core once, informing both products. Only the housings, interfaces, and siting differ.
Where the housings diverge
- Shared: the entire burner core and all core-physics gates.
- Aegis-specific: fixed defense-installation requirements and siting.
- MetroVolt-specific: co-location with data centers, urban siting, grid tie.
Because the housings do not change the physics, MetroVolt’s readiness tracks the burner core’s readiness. A test-unit result that validates the core validates it for both Aegis and MetroVolt; a shortfall affects both. The products diverge only after the core is proven.
