This target is explicitly conditional: it follows only if the ~2032 test unit confirms confinement, field, direct energy conversion, and materials life, and if helium-3 fuel supply is on a credible footing.

Why 2036, and why it can move

The four years between test and fleet cover design finalization, first-of-a-kind build, and the next-of-a-kind refinement that follows. If the test unit reveals a shortfall, this window absorbs a redesign-and-retest loop, and the date moves. The date is a plan, not a commitment independent of results.

MetroVolt’s value proposition — firm 24/7 power co-located with load, with almost no water — is a design property, not a demonstrated fleet property, until commercial units operate.
