The clearest beneficiaries of fusion may be people not yet born; building for them means leaving an honest, usable record.

Beneficiaries we will not meet

If fusion becomes a durable part of the clean energy system, most of its benefit accrues to future generations. That reframes the work as a kind of inheritance. The question becomes not only 'what can we prove now?' but 'what will we leave that others can build on?'

An honest record is the most valuable thing to leave. Overstated claims decay into wasted effort as others discover the gap. Openly published data, stated limits, and reproducible methods compound instead — each becoming a foundation the next team does not have to re-lay.

The inheritance we aim to leave

• Papers and open data with permanent identifiers
• Clearly documented honest gates and open questions
• Pre-registered predictions that can be judged right or wrong
• A frozen design others can extend or refute

This is also why we refuse to inflate the present. Future readers are the strictest reviewers: they will know whether our predictions held. Building for them means being the kind of ancestor whose records can be trusted. See a generational project and open science as a gift.
