What Abundance Actually Means
Energy 'abundance' is easy to romanticize; here is the precise, bounded meaning we stand behind.
Precision against a loaded word
'Energy abundance' can mean anything from a fair aspiration to an empty slogan. We fix its meaning narrowly. Abundance here refers to fuel that is widely available and a reaction that releases large energy without combustion — not free energy, not unlimited energy, and not energy without engineering constraints.
What it does mean
- Fuel not confined to scarce, contested geographic deposits
- Very high energy per unit fuel mass, by the physics of fusing light nuclei
- No carbon combustion, so cleaner output at the point of generation
- Byproducts — neutrons, tritium, helium-3 — that are useful rather than only waste
What it does not mean
- Not free: building and running plants is demanding (details kept out of this account)
- Not unlimited: real plants have real output limits
- Not proven: both machines are design and simulation studies
- Not without a scarce input: the burner's helium-3 is a genuine supply gate (~400x domestic)
Held this precisely, abundance is a defensible claim about fuel and physics rather than a promise about outcomes. That precision is what lets the word survive contact with the honest gates. See abundance without combustion and fusion fuel and abundance.
