The infrastructure we build now shapes emissions, land, and materials for generations. A long-now perspective asks whether a decision will look wise not next quarter but in fifty or a hundred years — the timescale on which climate and ecosystems actually respond. This is the clock the biosphere keeps.
What the long clock changes

Our staged, cautious timeline reflects this: build a first-of-a-kind, prove it, then scale. We do not rush to fleets before the physics is demonstrated, because a mistake made at scale echoes far longer than the time saved by hurrying. The breeder's construction start in Q2 2027 and first-tritium target around 2030 are steps on a much longer road.
Acting as a good ancestor is a demanding standard because the people it serves cannot speak for themselves today. It argues for reversible steps, honest records, and fuels abundant enough to last, so that a future generation inherits capability and knowledge rather than cleanup and depletion. The long clock is unforgiving of shortcuts taken to save a little time now.
