Humility About What We Don't Know
Fusion is hard and unfinished; stating our uncertainties plainly is part of being trustworthy about the planet.
Uncertainty, stated out loud
Fusion energy is one of the hardest engineering problems attempted, and it is not finished. Kronos has not built a working power plant. Treating our designs as if their benefits were already realized would be dishonest, and dishonesty is corrosive to the environmental trust this mission depends on. So we state our uncertainties plainly.
What we do not yet know
- Whether the machines will achieve hardware net energy gain
- How real components will behave over years of neutron exposure
- How a helium-3 supply for a burner fleet would be secured at scale
- How every lifecycle footprint estimate compares to eventual measured data
Naming these is not weakness; it is the precondition for being believed when we do report a solid result. Our staged timeline, pre-registered predictions, and open data all exist so that our uncertainties are visible and our confirmed claims are trustworthy. Stated uncertainties are also a defense against our own enthusiasm. It is easy, working on something you believe in, to let hope harden into assertion. Writing down what remains unknown, and returning to that list as results arrive, is a structural check on that drift — one that keeps the confident claims rare enough to be worth something.
Humility also keeps us open to being wrong — the heart of the precautionary approach.
