Water-Light Siting In Cities

Because direct energy conversion removes the steam cycle, a burner can be sited in water-constrained cities where thermal plants cannot.

Water is the usual siting blocker

The reason large firm plants sit far from cities is often water: they need a river, lake, or coastline to reject heat. Cities and arid regions rarely have spare water for a thermal plant, so firm capacity is imported over long lines. Removing the water need removes that blocker and opens urban and arid sites to firm generation.

The burner (MetroVolt) rejects almost no heat to water because direct energy conversion replaces the steam cycle. Its cooling needs are small, met with closed-loop or dry cooling, so it can be sited where water is scarce, exactly where firm capacity and transmission are most constrained.

Siting and the grid together

Water-light siting lets firm capacity be placed at the load in cities and arid load pockets, which relieves transmission and adds local resilience. This is where the water story and the grid-and-cities story converge: the same property that answers the data-center water crisis also enables near-demand siting.

Honest framing

The water-light property is one of the most concrete design advantages, but the machine is low-neutron, not aneutronic, and final water use is fixed only when built. Urban siting also still requires a nuclear safety case, licensing, and community consent.
