Relieving Transmission Congestion

Congested corridors cap how much power can reach a load; firm generation sited behind the constraint delivers power the wires cannot.

When the wires are the bottleneck

Transmission congestion occurs when the demand to move power across a corridor exceeds the corridor's rating. The grid then dispatches more expensive local generation or curtails cheaper remote generation, and reliability margins shrink downstream of the constraint. Building new lines takes many years and faces siting opposition.

Generation placed on the load side of a constraint delivers power that never has to cross the congested wires. The burner (MetroVolt), being water-light and compact, can be sited inside constrained load pockets where a conventional thermal plant could not, directly relieving the corridor.

A targeted tool

Because MetroVolt can be placed precisely where the grid is tight, it acts as a surgical fix for congestion rather than a bulk energy addition far away. This is especially relevant for fast-growing data-center clusters that overwhelm local transmission faster than new lines can be built.

Honest framing

Relieving congestion is a siting argument, not a claim about the physics being solved. The unit still faces the plug-stress, plug-regime, He-3 supply, and availability gates. Congestion relief is a benefit of where the design can sit, contingent on the machine working, which the 2032 test must show.
