Placing a firm burner at the load, behind or beside the meter, delivers power without crossing the grid and adds local resilience.
Power where it is used
Co-location means siting generation at the point of consumption: a burner beside a data-center campus, a city district, or an industrial cluster. Power delivered at the load avoids transmission losses, congestion, and the interconnection burden of exporting across the system. It also gives the load a local firm source it can island onto.
The burner (MetroVolt) is designed for co-location because it is water-light and compact, so it can sit where thermal plants cannot. For a data center, this means firm power at the fence line rather than contracted from distant plants over congested wires.
Behind or beside the meter
Co-location can be behind the customer's meter, primarily serving on-site load with the grid as backup, or beside it as a front-of-meter generator that also exports. The choice affects interconnection scope, grid-service participation, and how stand-by charges apply. Both keep generation close to the load.
Honest framing
Co-location is a siting advantage, not a physics claim. The unit still faces all four gates, and its availability (0.86 to 0.995) means a co-located data center still needs redundant units, storage, and a grid tie to reach Tier III continuity. Proximity helps resilience; it does not replace redundancy.
