Why helium-3 matters for security

Helium-3 is exceptionally good at capturing thermal neutrons, which makes it the material of choice for neutron detectors used to screen for illicit nuclear material at borders, ports, and sensitive sites. Global helium-3 supply is scarce and largely a byproduct of tritium decay, so a new civilian source has direct nonproliferation value.

The supply logic

A capability that strengthens the regime

This is a clear instance where a fusion product supports, rather than strains, security: better and more available neutron detection improves the ability to interdict illicit material. Kronos frames helium-3's strategic value as detection and civilian technology, not as revenue and not as a weapons input. As with all products, the yield figure is a design-basis number for a machine that is not yet built; a demonstrated supply awaits the breeder's operation, and helium-3 extraction at design yield is itself an open gate.
