Metadata and Citation

Clean metadata and a clear way to cite each deposit let a reference point precisely at a fixed version of the evidence, not a vague gesture at our site.

A citation is a promise to a future reader

Good metadata is what turns a deposit into something a scholar can rely on. Each Kronos deposit carries structured metadata — title, authors and roles, license, version, and its DOI — so a citation resolves to a fixed snapshot of the evidence rather than to a page that may change. A reference that cannot reach the exact files it names is not a citation; it is a hope.

Roles and attribution

Deposit metadata records author roles so credit is accurate and provenance is clear — part of the same ongoing metadata work that keeps the record clean, including reconciling contributor roles across the magnet and other papers. Accurate roles matter for a program that invites reuse: a downstream author should be able to attribute correctly without guessing.

Why this is part of openness

Openness fails at the last step if a reader who wants to cite or reproduce the work cannot address it precisely. Clean metadata and DOI-based citation are the plumbing that makes the whole open-science strategy usable by others — the difference between publishing and being cited correctly.
