The Honest Case for Impact

If the physics closes, the effect of firm clean power reaches people, grids, compute, and geopolitics; here is that case stated without triumph.

What impact means here

Energy touches almost everything a society does: how people work, how communities are built, how information is processed, how nations relate. A source of firm clean power would ripple through all of it. This section of the mission looks honestly at those ripples — the good ones, the hard ones, and the ones that depend on results we have not yet earned.

The first thing to say plainly: both Kronos machines are today design and simulation studies. The breeder (Hyperion) and the burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) have not demonstrated hardware net gain, and we make no such claim before first-of-a-kind (FOAK) operation, targeted for first tritium around 2030. Every impact described here is conditional on physics and engineering that we are still working to close.

Why we resist triumphalism

Energy transitions are slow, contested, and full of unintended effects. New power sources have displaced workers, reshaped landscapes, and shifted geopolitical fault lines — not always for the better. A serious account of impact has to hold the promise and the cost in the same view.
