The first move from simulation to measurement
FOAK first tritium, targeted near 2030, is the moment the breeder (Hyperion) record gains its first hardware data. It does not validate everything at once. The honest accounting names which pre-registered predictions FOAK can begin to test and in what order.
- Magnet field: measurable before plasma; tests the 16.84 T / 8 T on-axis prediction directly.
- Plasma current and equilibrium: tests whether 9.66 MA and the negative-triangularity shape hold in hardware.
- Neutron spectrum: an early, sharp test of the 14.1 MeV D-T signature.

Order matters
Field and spectrum resolve early and cheaply; confinement and breeding require integrated operation. Sequencing the tests from cheapest-and-earliest to hardest means a design flaw in a foundational assumption is caught before the program depends on it.
What 'test' means here
FOAK begins validation; it does not complete it. A single machine's first tritium is evidence, not proof of fleet behavior. The limits are set out in what FOAK will not prove.
