From Scarcity to Abundance
The mindset shift the vision asks for: treating energy as something that can be abundant and clean, rather than a fixed budget to be fought over.
Vision, not specification. This page describes a future that fusion could help make possible — not a product promise, forecast, or performance claim. The Kronos machines today are design and simulation studies: the breeder (Hyperion) and the burner (Aegis / MetroVolt). No hardware net-gain has been demonstrated; construction of the first breeder is planned to begin in Q2 2027, with first-of-a-kind first tritium targeted around 2030.
A budget or a flow
Much of energy policy is framed as budgeting: a fixed, scarce quantity to be divided among competing uses, with every gain for one sector a loss for another. That framing is realistic while clean energy is genuinely scarce. It becomes a self-imposed limit if clean firm energy can be made abundant.
The vision asks for a shift from budget to flow — from rationing a scarce clean resource to expanding it. This does not mean waste; abundance and efficiency go together, because efficient systems make abundance go further. It means stopping the assumption that living well and living cleanly must trade against each other.
Why the framing matters
Framing is not idle. A scarcity mindset produces zero-sum politics around energy: growth versus climate, one region versus another, this decade versus the next. An abundance mindset, if it is warranted by the technology, dissolves several of those conflicts at once. The responsibility is to make sure the mindset is earned by real clean supply, not asserted ahead of it.
