Why extrapolation is risky

Plasma behaviour is nonlinear; instabilities and transport can change character across such a gap. Extrapolating 100–800× beyond any operating point is not a small correction — it is a leap into unmeasured physics. A design that works on paper at those conditions has not been shown to work in a machine, because no machine has been there.

What would close the gate

This gate is why Kronos calls the burner a design-and-simulation study. The plug regime is currently un-post-dictable, and no amount of internal simulation substitutes for a machine at the relevant conditions. Resilient sovereign power from the burner is contingent on this gate being closed experimentally.

No substitute for a machine at the conditions

Internal simulation, however careful, cannot validate physics at 166–830 times beyond any operating point, because there is no data at those conditions to check it against. Closing this gate requires intermediate experiments that step the regime forward and anchor the models. Until then, burner performance in the plug is a projection, and Kronos labels it as one.
