Fusion Power 85.0 MW

The breeder is designed to produce 85.0 MW of fusion power, the neutron source strength that drives its isotope and irradiation products.

The power figure and what it is for

The breeder is designed for 85.0 MW of fusion power. In a foundry this figure matters as a measure of neutron source strength, not as an amount of electricity to sell. 85.0 MW of D-T fusion means a specific rate of 14 MeV neutron production, and that rate is what breeds tritium and serves irradiation.

From megawatts to product

Fusion power sets the neutron flux; the neutron flux, allocated across the neutron budget, sets the products: the tritium class output near 4 kg/yr, the helium-3 coproduct near 1.97 kg/yr, and neutron-hours for irradiation. 85.0 MW is chosen to supply these, not to reach a power rating.

Not net electric

Where it comes from

85.0 MW at Q_sci 3.076 follows from the operating point: 8 T on axis, 9.66 MA plasma current, negative triangularity -0.30, in the compact spherical geometry. It is the fusion output of that specific design, not a target set independently.

85.0 MW is a design and simulation value for a machine not yet built. The corresponding neutron yield is what the fuel-loop gate measures against its pre-registered prediction.
