Sovereign Domestic Energy
Sovereign energy means the fuel, generation, and critical isotopes a nation depends on are produced and controlled domestically, not imported.
What sovereignty means here
Energy sovereignty is the capacity to supply critical energy and energy-related materials from domestic sources under national control, without dependence on foreign supply that can be interrupted for political or strategic reasons. It spans two things in the Kronos context: on-site generation for resilient power, and domestic production of strategic isotopes.
The breeder (Hyperion) and burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) straddle both. The breeder is an isotope platform producing tritium, helium-3, and 14 MeV neutrons domestically; the burner is a resilient on-site generator concept. Together they map onto the two halves of sovereignty: materials and power.
Why isotopes are a sovereignty issue
Several strategic isotopes have thin, foreign-dominated, or shortage-prone supply chains. Helium-3 in particular has demand that outstrips supply. Domestic breeding changes the dependency picture, though the breeder is a design-and-simulation study whose tritium breeding ratio is treated as a design lever (1.1 / 1.5 / 1.8) rather than a settled number.

Sovereignty is not autarky. The goal is not to produce every input domestically but to remove the specific dependencies that an adversary or a disruption could exploit for leverage. Some inputs are safe to source globally; a few, thin-supply strategic isotopes and continuous critical power, are not. Sovereign capability targets that short, high-leverage list, which is exactly where the breeder and burner concepts are aimed.
