Lifecycle Water: An Honest Accounting

A complete water account includes fuel supply, construction, and facility use, not just cooling; MetroVolt's advantage is clearest in operating cooling water.

Beyond cooling water

An honest water footprint spans the whole lifecycle: extracting and processing fuel, manufacturing and constructing the plant, operating it, and decommissioning it. Cooling water is usually the dominant operating term for thermal plants, but it is not the only term.

Where MetroVolt clearly wins, and where it does not

MetroVolt's decisive advantage is in operating cooling water, which it nearly eliminates. Construction and facility water are comparable to other plants; the burner does not claim an advantage there. Fuel-chain water for deuterium and helium-3 supply is a real term that any complete accounting must include.

Why we frame it this way

Overstating the advantage across the whole lifecycle would be dishonest. The robust, defensible claim is specific: the operating cooling-water term, the one that dominates a thermal plant's footprint and drives drought and siting conflicts, is nearly removed. Other terms are ordinary.

The takeaway

When the burner is called water-light, it means the large, continuous, operating cooling-water draw is gone. That is the term that matters most for stressed basins and firm data-center power, and it is the term direct energy conversion actually addresses.
