Right-Sized Emergency Preparedness

Emergency provisions match the real hazard: on-site response and monitoring, not large off-site evacuation zones.

Emergency preparedness should be proportionate to the hazard it addresses. Because the bounding fusion accident releases only part of a small tritium inventory — with no large off-site consequence — Kronos emergency preparedness is right-sized: robust on-site response and monitoring, coordinated with local authorities, without the large evacuation zones that a fission severe-accident potential requires.

Preparedness focuses on prompt on-site containment and monitoring, sized to a bounded hazard.

The emphasis is on prompt containment — isolating the affected system and processing any release through detritiation — because the reaction has already ended and the source is small. There is no scenario requiring the population-scale sheltering or evacuation that defines fission emergency planning, because the physics does not produce a large, persistent off-site source.

Preparedness, not complacency

Right-sizing is not minimizing.
