Surplus tritium above self-sufficiency can be supplied to fusion programs and neutron-target users — the offtake that also seeds new units.
Supplying the fuel of the field
Tritium offtake is the surplus tritium remaining after the machine covers its own fuel needs, losses, and startup reserves. Because there is no natural tritium reservoir and only limited fission-derived supply, any assured new source of tritium is strategically important to the entire D–T fusion field.

Deliveries are physical shipments of a controlled radioactive material. Each batch is purified, separated from accumulated helium-3, assayed by calorimetry and gas analysis, and documented under the tritium accountancy system. Containment, transport authorization, and radiopurity certification accompany every shipment.
The surplus is set by breeding
Only tritium bred above self-sufficiency is available as external offtake, so the volume is governed directly by net TBR. At a thin net margin, little is available; at the reference 1.8 target, the ~4 kg/yr class supports meaningful offtake and fleet seeding. Because the net-TBR reconciliation is open, offtake volumes are design targets, not committed quantities, before FOAK.
