Availability and Siting Honesty
The burner's studied availability is well short of hyperscale Tier III, so its siting value is water and land, not sole-source uptime.
A land and water story can become dishonest if it implies a capability the machine does not have. The burner (Aegis / MetroVolt) has a clear, stated availability gate, and any siting claim must respect it.
The number, plainly
Design-and-simulation availability for the burner is roughly 0.86 to 0.995. Hyperscale Tier III data centers target 0.99982. That is a gap of about 30 to 100 times in tolerable downtime. The burner, as studied, cannot be a sole Tier-III power source; it would run alongside grid or storage backup.
What this does and does not change
- Does not change: the burner's water advantage from removing the steam cycle.
- Does not change: the land advantage from compactness and co-location.
- Does change: any implication that the burner alone guarantees data-center uptime today.
- Correct framing: a water-light, land-light on-site generation architecture that currently needs backup for the most demanding loads.
Stating the availability gate is part of what makes the environmental case trustworthy. We present the water and land benefits as architectural facts and the uptime shortfall as an equally factual gate, in the same breath, so no reader is misled about capability.
The reason to lead with this gate rather than bury it is that the audience most interested in MetroVolt — data-center operators — will test it first. Stating the 30-to-100x downtime gap plainly, alongside the genuine water and land advantages, is more persuasive than a softened figure that collapses under the first serious question. Candor is the credible position here, not a liability.
