Frozen Points and Recorded Withdrawals

A frozen number at Kronos is a commitment against silent change — not a claim of final truth.

When Kronos freezes a quantity, it commits only to one thing: that the value will not change silently. A frozen number can still be withdrawn when better analysis requires it — but the withdrawal is dated, reasoned, and every document carrying the old value is swept.

The science

The freeze mechanism has teeth and has been exercised: of fourteen quantities frozen in one round, three were withdrawn and two restated within hours, each because it rested on a basis the freeze itself superseded. The remaining values stand, each re-verified from its source before freezing.

Why it matters

A freeze that permits recorded withdrawal is stronger, not weaker, than one that pretends permanence. It lets the programme commit to consistency while staying correctable — the opposite of the silent design drift that produces a machine no single analysis ever checked.
