17 Tesla, Already Built: The Mirror Throat Field

The burner's high-field magnets sit on a demonstrated number, not an extrapolated one.

The burner's mirror throats run at 17 tesla — exactly the field WHAM's built HTS magnets have demonstrated. The highest-field magnet in the machine is anchored to hardware that already exists.

The science

A mirror confines by the ratio of throat field to central field, so throat field is a pacing parameter. The burner specifies 17 T, the demonstrated capability of built HTS mirror magnets, rather than a speculative higher field. The design leans on a measured anchor for its most demanding coil.

Why it matters

Because the throat field is demonstrated, the confinement question reduces to the plug density ratio, not to whether the magnets can be built. The window study confirms the machine is insensitive to throat field over 8-35 T — the coil is not the risk.
