Quench Dump Resistor
The resistor bank that safely absorbs a magnet's energy in a quench.
- Role
- Energy dump
- Sized by
- Stored magnetic energy
If a magnet quenches, its stored energy is switched into a dump resistor and dissipated as heat outside the coil, protecting it from a hot spot. Sizing it follows directly from the stored magnetic energy.
