Fuel Cycle & Tritium Systems Engineer
Fuel CycleFull-timeLos Angeles, CA (hybrid)
Design the tritium and helium-3 fuel cycle — breeding, extraction, storage, accountancy, and safe handling.
About the role
Tritium is the breeder's principal safety and licensing quantity, and helium-3 is the strategic product. You'll design the closed fuel cycle and the real-time accountancy that a regulator expects — turning the fuel loop into a controlled, auditable system.
What you'll do
- Model the closed fuel cycle and in-vessel tritium inventory.
- Design extraction, storage, permeation-barrier, and recovery systems.
- Build real-time tritium accountancy and inventory controls.
- Support helium-3 collection, purification, and offtake.
- Support licensing under the byproduct-material framework.
- Own safety analysis for tritium handling.
What you bring
- Experience with tritium systems, fuel cycles, or nuclear plant systems.
- Strong safety-first engineering judgment.
- Familiarity with permeation, gas handling, and accountancy.
- Comfort with regulatory-grade documentation.
- Bonus: fusion fuel-cycle or isotope-handling experience.
Compensation
Compensation discussed early in the process; California pay range provided on request.
