The Kronos Quantum Roadmap

A staged, honest plan: benchmark now, invest in fault-tolerant materials simulation later, and treat the He-3 link as the nearest-term reality.

Sequencing quantum against the machine timeline

The Kronos machines do not wait on quantum computing. Breeder construction begins Q2 2027, FOAK first tritium is targeted around 2030, and every operational decision rests on classical simulation and control validated by measured hardware. The quantum roadmap therefore runs on its own, longer track, with the physical He-3 link as its only near-term concrete element.

The three commitments

What we are actually doing today

Concretely: maintaining calibrated VQE and QAOA benchmarks against classical tensor-network and heuristic baselines; tracking fault-tolerant resource estimates for a first-wall defect cluster against hardware roadmaps; and treating the breeder's He-3 output as a genuine, present-day link to the quantum-hardware supply chain.

The payoff, if it comes, is fleet-scale: accurate materials energetics that inform first-wall and blanket choices across decades of operation. That is a patient, high-leverage bet made without overclaiming. The near-term, undeniable quantum fact for Kronos is not an algorithm at all, it is helium-3, described in the isotope-demand flywheel.
