L7 Ecosystem and Strategy: Architecture Overview
Layer 7 is the plant's single boundary to the outside world: one governed API for grid, supply chain, isotope offtake, regulators, and fleet coordination.
Where L7 sits in the stack
Layer 7 (L7) is the outermost tier of the Kronos AI-Native S.M.A.R.T. Generator stack. Everything below it (L0 Foundation through L6) turns a physical machine into a governed, model-backed control system. L7 exposes that system to the world through a single, contract-defined boundary and, in the other direction, pulls the world's state (grid demand, isotope orders, component supply, regulatory obligations) into the control loops. It is deliberately the only door: no external party talks to L1 control or L3 twin directly.
L7 serves both machines from one framework. The breeder (Hyperion) is a D-T spherical tokamak with Q_sci 3.076, 85.0 MW fusion power, 9.66 MA plasma current, 16.84 T peak field and negative triangularity delta -0.30; its L7 concerns are tritium and helium-3 offtake, 14 MeV neutron services, and lithium blanket supply tied to a tritium breeding ratio treated as a design lever across 1.1/1.5/1.8. The burner (Aegis / MetroVolt), a D-3He tandem-mirror generator with a 26.49 T plug, 17 T throat and 5.44% neutron fraction, is instead a firm-power exporter through direct energy conversion, with Aegis as fixed defense installations and MetroVolt as data-center generators.
The five ecosystem functions
- Unified API gateway: one authenticated door in and out of the plant
- Grid integration: dispatch and firm-power participation for burner housings
- Supply chain: deuterium, lithium, parts inbound; tritium, helium-3, neutrons outbound
- Maintenance and service loops: fleet-level condition, spares, teleoperation
- Regulatory and compliance feeds: byproduct-material accountancy and audit export
Above the single plant, L7 also carries fleet strategy: coordinating a foundry of breeders (FOAK to NOAK to BOAK from ~2030) and a fleet of burners, propagating validated models between units, and letting the plant participate in the wider energy and isotope economy.
These machines are design and simulation studies. Breeder construction begins Q2 2027 with first-of-a-kind first tritium targeted ~2030; no hardware net-gain is claimed before FOAK. L7 today is exercised against the digital twin and simulated markets, with a defined path to live operation once units exist.
