Why not just build more solar and batteries?
Solar and batteries are essential but can't affordably cover multi-day and seasonal gaps. Firm clean generation like fusion complements them — it doesn't replace them.

If solar and batteries are cheap, why do we need fusion?
Solar and wind are cheap and should be built out aggressively — but they're intermittent, and batteries only economically cover hours, not the multi-day lulls and seasonal swings a reliable grid must survive. Covering those gaps with storage alone gets extremely expensive. Firm clean generation fills them at far lower cost.
Isn't storage getting cheaper too?
Yes, and it's valuable — but the cost of storage scales with duration, and multi-day or seasonal backup means enormous, rarely-used capacity. A firm generator running at high capacity factor is a cheaper way to guarantee those hours.
So fusion competes with storage?
More complements than competes. The cheapest clean grid is a mix: abundant renewables, some storage, and firm clean power like fusion behind them. Kronos designs for that firm role.
