Can fusion compete with cheap solar and wind?
Not on raw energy cost alone — unsubsidized solar and wind are very cheap. Fusion competes on firmness: it delivers power on demand, day or night, which intermittent renewables cannot. As grids fill with renewables, the value of firm capacity rises, and that is the market fusion addresses.
So where does fusion win?

Isn't storage cheaper than firm generation?
