What does 'firm power' mean?
Firm power is electricity you can count on being there whenever it's needed — day or night, sun or no sun, wind or calm. It's the opposite of intermittent supply. A firm generator can be dispatched on demand to meet load, which is what keeps a grid stable and reliable.
Why is firm power valuable?
As grids fill with cheap but intermittent wind and solar, the scarce and valuable thing becomes firmness — something dependable behind them for the hours and seasons renewables fall short. Today that's usually fossil fuels; fusion aims to provide it clean.
Is fusion firm power?
