Is fusion energy like a hydrogen bomb?
No. Both involve fusion, but a power plant holds only seconds of fuel in a controlled plasma that can't explode — the opposite of a bomb's uncontrolled release.

Is a fusion reactor like a hydrogen bomb?
No. Both involve fusion reactions, but that's where the similarity ends. A hydrogen bomb is an uncontrolled release of energy from a large mass of fuel compressed by a fission trigger. A fusion power plant holds only seconds' worth of fuel at a time in a carefully controlled plasma that is extraordinarily hard to keep burning — any disturbance stops it. There is no mechanism for it to explode.
Could a reactor accidentally become explosive?
No. The physics runs the other way: fusion conditions are so difficult to maintain that the failure mode is the reaction stopping, not accelerating. And there's no fission trigger, no large fuel mass, and no compression mechanism.
So the two are fundamentally different?
Yes — controlled continuous power generation versus an uncontrolled weapon. A power-plant plasma cannot be turned into a bomb, and fusion plants produce no weapons-usable material.
