What happens if a fusion plant loses power?
It shuts down safely on its own. A fusion plasma needs continuous input to exist, so losing power stops the reaction — the opposite of a fission decay-heat risk.

What happens in a station blackout at a fusion plant?
The reaction stops safely. A fusion plasma only exists while it's actively heated and confined; cut the power and it simply extinguishes within seconds. There's no decay-heat buildup to manage, which is the failure that drives fission-reactor safety design.
Does it need emergency cooling like a fission plant?
Not in the same way. Fission fuel keeps generating heat after shutdown and must be actively cooled for a long time; a fusion plasma carries no such afterheat. The control system also degrades gracefully to a deterministic safe state on failure.
So loss of power is safe?
Yes — it's fail-safe. Loss of any essential input (power, fuel, confinement) causes the plasma to stop, not to run away. This passive safety is one of fusion's fundamental advantages.
