How long has fusion been studied?
Controlled-fusion research began in earnest in the 1950s, so it's roughly seven decades old. Progress has been real but slower than early optimists hoped — largely because the physics is genuinely hard and funding lagged the roadmaps.
Has progress sped up recently?
Yes, markedly. Three things changed: high-temperature superconductors made compact high-field magnets possible, a wave of private companies brought engineering focus and capital, and in 2022 the National Ignition Facility achieved scientific ignition. The field is moving faster than at any point in its history.
Where does Kronos fit in that history?
