Fusion vs Hydropower

Hydropower is firm, clean, and dispatchable — but geographically limited and largely built out. Fusion offers the same firm clean profile without the geography constraint.

Both
Firm, clean, dispatchable
Hydro
Limited by rivers/geography; largely built out
Fusion
Sitable anywhere the load is
Maturity
Hydro proven; fusion developing

Hydropower is one of the best firm renewable resources — clean, dispatchable, and long-lived. Its limitation is geography: it needs the right rivers and terrain, and in much of the world the good sites are already dammed. That geographic ceiling is what fusion sidesteps.

DimensionFusion / Hydropower
FirmnessFirm, dispatchable / firm, dispatchable
SitingFlexible, near the load / fixed to suitable rivers
Growth headroomManufacturable at scale / largely tapped out

Where hydro is available it's superb; the point is that most places can't add more. A compact fusion plant brings hydro-like firm clean power to regions without the rivers for it — see fusion vs geothermal for the same theme with the Earth's heat.
