Fusion for Direct Air Capture
Pulling CO₂ from the air is enormously energy-intensive and only makes sense with cheap, firm, clean power — a natural application for firm fusion.

Direct air capture (DAC) — pulling CO₂ straight out of the atmosphere — is likely to be a necessary tool for reaching net zero and going net-negative. But it is enormously energy-intensive, and it only makes climate and economic sense if the energy powering it is both clean (otherwise you emit more than you capture) and cheap and firm (so the plant runs at high utilization).
Firm fusion power fits that requirement well. A firm, zero-carbon supply lets energy-hungry capture equipment run continuously rather than idling on intermittent power, and a fusion plant can supply both the electricity and the process heat many DAC approaches use.
As carbon removal scales, its appetite for firm clean energy will be vast — and pairing it with a dedicated firm fusion source is a natural, if longer-horizon, strategic-partnership application. See fusion & decarbonization.
