Is a fusion plant safe to work in?
Yes. The genuine hazards — the magnets' stored energy, tritium handling, and neutron-activated components — are all engineering-controlled with well-established industrial and radiation-protection practice. There is no accident that would threaten workers on the scale of a fission excursion, because the reaction fails safe.
What about radiation exposure?
During operation, biological shielding contains the radiation, and access to activated areas is controlled and, where needed, handled by remote maintenance. A low-neutron design means less activation, so lighter shielding and safer maintenance than a D–T plant.
How does this compare to other power plants?
