Is helium-3 mined on the moon?
Not yet, but the moon is a genuine long-term source: the lunar surface has absorbed helium-3 from the solar wind over billions of years, so its regolith holds far more than Earth does. Lunar helium-3 is a real, if distant, resource — and a subject some Kronos advisors have researched for decades.
Does Kronos depend on lunar helium-3?
No. Kronos breeds its own helium-3 in the plasma via the catalyzed deuterium–deuterium branch, so the plant supplies much of its own fuel. Lunar helium-3 is treated as a long-horizon complement, not a requirement — the design works without ever going to the moon.
So why is the moon connection mentioned at all?
Because it's a legitimate part of the broader helium-3 story and long-term fuel picture. But Kronos's near-term fuel security rests on in-situ breeding, not space mining.
