Does fusion produce radioactive waste?
Fusion produces activated structural waste. Hyperion’s qualified alloy keeps every component at or below Class C for disposal; a low-neutron burner produces less activation.

Does fusion make radioactive waste?
Far less than fission, with no fission-style spent fuel. Neutrons activate the reactor structure. For Hyperion, the qualified low-activation alloy and impurity specification keep every component at or below Class C for disposal; this is disposable low-level waste, not free-release.
How does Kronos compare?
Because Kronos is low-neutron (neutron fraction 7.70% at the operating baseline (≈5.44% at the frozen design point), about an order of magnitude below D–T) and has no breeding blanket, it activates far less material and produces correspondingly less waste than a conventional D–T fusion plant.
Is any of it long-lived, like fission waste?
A small long-lived fraction remains: Nb-94 from residual niobium and C-14 from nitrogen. Under the qualified impurity specification it is an order of magnitude below the Class-C boundary, with no greater-than-Class-C material and no deep-geologic repository.
Activated structures classify at or below Class C low-level waste — disposable, with no greater-than-Class-C material and no deep-geologic repository — when built to the qualified low-activation copper-, tantalum-, rhenium-, and molybdenum-free Cr-Ti-V-W alloy and its impurity specification (niobium <= 5 ppm, controlled nitrogen).
