Charged-Particle Direct Converter (CPDC)

A CPDC decelerates charged fusion products against an electric field, recovering their energy directly as electricity — a core mode of the Kronos DEC train.

What
Recovers charged-particle energy as electricity
How
Decelerates ions against a collector potential
No steam cycle
Bypasses the Carnot limit
Analysis
S16 (direct converter)

A charged-particle direct converter (CPDC) is the most direct form of direct energy conversion: it decelerates the fast charged fusion products — protons and alphas — against a sequence of collector electrodes held at rising potential, so the particles' kinetic energy is delivered straight to the electrical circuit as they slow down. There is no heat engine in between, so no Carnot ceiling.

In Kronos MetroVolt the CPDC (deposited analysis S16) is one mode of a multi-modal conversion train that also includes an MHD generator, thermionic stages, and photonic capture. Because it only works on charged particles, the CPDC is a direct beneficiary of the low-neutron fuel choice: the more energy that emerges charged, the more it can capture.
