Paul Weiss

Paul Weiss is a Board Member at Kronos Fusion Energy, providing oversight to Material Sciences and Nanotechnology. As a leading American nano scientist, Weiss has made significant contributions to the field through his research and academic pursuits. He is currently a distinguished professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). From 2009 to 2014, he held the prestigious Fred Kavli Chair in Nano Systems Sciences and served as the director of the California Nano Systems Institute. Weiss has co-authored over 400 research publications and holds more than 40 US and international patents.
Weiss earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1980, followed by a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley in 1986. After his doctoral studies, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Bell Labs from 1986 to 1988 and as a visiting scientist at IBM Research at Almaden from 1988 to 1989. Weiss then joined Pennsylvania State University in 1989, where he held various positions, ultimately becoming a Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Physics, a role he held until 2009.
Throughout his career, Weiss has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the IEEE Pioneer Award in Nanotechnology, American Chemical Society Patterson-Crane Award for Contributions to Chemical Information, election as an Inaugural Foreign Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, American Chemical Society Tolman Medal, American Chemical Society Award in Colloid and Surface Chemistry, election as a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Fellow of the American Physical Society, American Chemical Society Nobel Laureate Signature Award for Graduate Education in Chemistry, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellowship.
